Sunday of the Word of God

Pope Francis has instituted the 3rd Sunday of Ordinary Time as the Sunday of the Word of God. The Holy Father had proposed a Sunday given over entirely to the word of God, so as to appreciate the inexhaustible riches contained in that constant dialogue between the Lord and his people.

In the Eucharistic celebration the sacred text be enthroned, in order to focus the attention of the assembly on the normative value of God’s word. In his letter Aperuit illis, Pope Francis points to the provision of training for readers which we are presently engaged with, highlighting and teaching about the proclamation of the Word of the Lord, making the Bible available and encouraging people to read and pray with Scripture daily, especially through the practice of lectio divina
